IDW Publishing has announced a new series of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation comic books, in addition to a trade paperback collection of the original CSI comic miniseries, to debut in August 2003.
The new series, entitled Bad Rap, will bring back the creative team of Max Allan Collins, Gabriel Rodriguez and Ashley Wood, according to the press release at Comic Book Resources.
Bad Rap will send the CSI team in search of the murderer of a famous gangsta rapper. Each of the five comic books in the series will sell for $3.99.
"Involving Gil Grissom and his criminalists in the world of gangsta rap is just the latest brilliant idea from the mind of one of our best crime writers," said IDW's Editor-in-Chief, Jeff Mariotte.
The initial five-issue CSI comic will be collected in a 144-page trade paperback in full color with a new introduction by TV series creator Anthony E. Zuiker. The book will also include a brand new short story by Collins and Woods.
"The original CSI miniseries had a mushroom effect with sales," said Beau Smith of IDW. "The new trade paperback will enlarge the reader base even more."
The original press release may be found at Comic Book Resources. The publisher's site is here.
