Ratings Round-Up: Hits And Misses For CBS This Week

There remains no doubt that the CSI shows are still a veritable ratings juggernaught – but the network itself has experienced mixed results this week in terms of its overall position compared to its competitors.

CSI: Miami still peaked top of its hour and top of the night for CBS on Monday evening, pulling in with a rating of 10.8/16. This means that out of all the households in America, 10.8% were watching "Lost Son" on the night, rising to 16% when factoring only in those households actually watching TV at 10:00pm. This represented 14.41 million viewers in total

Admittedly this is a sharp drop from the 16.1/25 the show hit last week and its 21.22 million viewers; but then it was a repeat episode. Despite this it still pulled into pole position, however it seemed from the night that it was the crown jewel in an otherwise crumbling CBS crown, as the eye network conceded the night to rival ABC, and was in fact down 25% in terms of viewership for the night compared with the previous year.

Shooting spatially up the side of the east US coast to New York and temporally to Wednesday evening in the 10:00pm slot, CSI: NY brought in an appreciable rating of 10.6/17, bringing it back up to first in its timeslot after its drop to third place last week. "A Man, A Mile" also beat out competition from NBC's Law & Order - although the jury is still out on which of the two will prevail, as the defendant was showing a repeat that night.

It was of course then back to the big guns on Thursday night, with CSI: Crime Scene Investigation unleashed on suspecting audiences who were lured to the order of a 20.9/29 rating for "What's Eating Gilbert Grissom?". This was identical to last week, however actual audience size increased from 28.88 million last week to a whopping 30.14 million viewers this week. This was the only night of the week that CBS both showed growth on the same night from the previous year and won the night.
