CSI: Crime Scene Investigations faced off against a "supersized" hour and fifteen minute episode of The Apprentice and still came out on top, both for the hour and the evening on the first night of February sweeps.
Mediaweek's Programming Insider reports that "Suckers," the first CSI episode of the February sweeps, scored a 20.1 rating/28 share. This means that 20.1% of households with television sets had them tuned into CSI, while 28% of households watching TV during that hour were viewing "Suckers." The ratings for "Suckers" matched those of the last new episode of CSI, "Butterflied". "Suckers" pulled in 29.55 million viewers in total, winning both the hour and the night.
The Apprentice held its own against CSI, scoring a 13.8/19. Though well below CSI in the overnights, it was closer to CSI in the 18-49 bracket. CSI was first place among 18 to 49 year olds with a rating of 10.7/25 in the category, but The Apprentice was right behind it with a 9.5/22.
NBC, buoyed by new episodes of Friends (18.7/26) and ER (16.5/25), won the overnights, with a 15.9/22. CBS was right on the Peacock's tail, coming in at second place with a 15.7/22. CBS still managed to pull in more total viewers than NBC, attracting 24.02 million last night, ahead of NBC by 2.74 million.
CSI's lead-in and lead-out shows both came in second place in their respective time slots. Survivor: All Stars scored a 13.6/19 against Friends, while Without a Trace earned a 13.6/20 opposite ER.
