The CSI franchise is holding its ground.
CSI: Miami came out on top with 14.07 million viewers, increasing to 14.56 million at the half-hour. Miami easily beat out Boston Legal and the season premiere of Life (at a special night and time), which earned 9.80 million and 6.92 million viewers respectively. In the 18-49 demographic, Miami had a 4.2 rating/10 share (rising to 4.5/12 at 10:30pm). Life came in second with 3.0/7 (dropping to 2.5/7 at the half-hour) and Legal had 2.5/6 (2.2/6 at 10:30pm). Week to week, Miami lost 2.55 million viewers from the numbers it earned for the season premiere.
The second episode of CSI: New York pulled in 14.67 million overall viewers and 4.1/11 in the 18-49 demo. Dirty Sexy Money's season premiere came in second (7.14 million, 2.5/7), and Lipstick Jungle rounded out third place with 5.31 million viewers and 1.9/5 in the crucial demo. Compared to the season premiere, CSI: New York posted similar numbers to last week's 14.59 million overall viewers. It did better week-to-week than lead-in Criminal Minds, which dropped 2.49 million from its premiere.
CBS's coverage of the Vice Presidential Debate (11.09 million viewers, 3.4/8) put it in third place behind ABC (11.58 million, 3.9/9) and NBC (11.32 million, 4.4/10).
