Adam Rodriguez On Staring Down Jimmy Smits

Just like CSI: Miami lead actor David Caruso (Horatio Caine), one of the first roles of Adam Rodriguez (Eric Delko) was on cop show NYPD Blue. But speaking to Australian media recently, Rodriguez revealed his guest part was considerably less glamourous than Caruso's one-year starring turn.

"My little part -- or my three words to be exact -- on NYPD Blue were 'in the corner,'" Rodriguez told an unidentified Australian media source, quoted by fan site JustAdam.net. "I was carrying some boxes, I was in a police uniform and I said to someone 'In the corner?' and they said, 'Yeah, that’s fine.' And then I had to have a stare down with the show’s star, Jimmy Smits."

The interviewer went on to ask who won. "Come on baby, who do you think," Rodriguez replied.

Rodriguez went on to discuss another early role of his, appearing in a Jennifer Lopez music video. "We're friends and when she was putting the album together a group of us were hanging out and another friend said, 'Why don't you put Adam in the video clip?' So I said, 'Sure,' and the song (If You Had My Love) went on to be a huge hit -– the whole album turned out to be a huge hit."

Nowadays, Rodriguez stars in a huge hit of his own. The actor briefly discussed the "movie magic" that allows the production team to film most of CSI: Miami in Los Angeles. "We shoot 90 percent of the show in LA and go to Miami maybe three or four times a year for over 10 days at a time to shoot a bunch of exterior scenes and keep people believing it's Miami," Rodriguez said. "Sorry everyone! Miami’s great ... although I might not still be alive if I lived in Miami. [..] It's a big party city and it goes late. It's not like LA where everything closes at 2am."

But even in Los Angeles, there are things that could threaten Rodriguez' health -- in particular, his stomach. "I'd say the goriest thing [ever on the show] -– and it sticks out so vividly in my mind because it looked so real -– was in the last fire episode," Rodriguez said. "There was a guy who gets burnt to death in a fire and the make-up was so real -– the guy looked like you’d just pulled him out of the barbeque... But he didn't taste as good."
