Lorre: It Was A Half-Assed Idea

It's a crossover...of sorts.
This week, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Two and a Half Men are airing crossover episodes. Although appearances from the actors on both shows are possible, the crossover itself involved writer-producers for both shows switching it up. CSI's Carol Mendelsohn and Naren Shankar traded places with Chuck Lorre and Lee Aronsohn from Men.
"It was a really half-assed idea when I pitched it to Carol," Lorre explained during a conference call. "And the fact that it has taken hold and we're having this conversation now defies every sense of reality that I have." Even though the writers switched shows, they helped each other create the episodes. "After they pitched, they did an outline of our show, we did an outline of their show," Aronsohn said. "Then they did a first draft of our show and we did a first draft of their show and we all got together and punched up and they gave us the forensics and the plotting of the crimes and we kind of put in our hahas. We put in our brilliant comedy."
"There are some wonderful little cameos in both episodes that are a little wink at the audience," Lorre explained. "But we didn't go beyond that." Lead stars William Petersen (Gil Grissom) and Charlie Sheen are not scheduled to make appearances as part of the crossover. However, Aronsohn added, "You'll find Easter eggs, I think we'll call them, if you watch the episodes."
The conference call deviated from the crossover when the CSI writers were asked about a possible big screen adaptation of the popular forensic series. "There has been a little talk over the years, nothing concrete," Mendelsohn said. "But I wouldn't be surprised if that happens one day."
