Psychic drama series Medium gave CSI: Miami an unwelcome wake-up call in the ratings on Monday night.

The NBC series, a mid-season replacement for the now-axed LAX, attracted 16.1 million viewers in the 10:00 p.m. timeslot, only two million fewer than the 18.2 million who watched Miami's "Shootout", according to the Hollywood Reporter. The race was even closer in the key adults 18-49 demographic, where Medium scored an average 6.3 rating / 16 share compared to Miami's 6.6/17. However, in the 10:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. half-hour, Medium actually increased its share of viewers aged 18-49, matching Miami's ratings in that demographic.

"Shootout" averaged a 13.9 rating / 21 share in total viewers throughout the timeslot. This means that approximately 13.9% of American households with television sets were watching CSI: Miami on Monday night, while the episode was viewed by 21% of households watching television at 10:00 p.m. These figures were signficantly down on the last first-run episode of the series, "Addiction", which scored a 15.1/23 rating on December 13, with a 7.5/19 in the adults 18-49 demographic.

Despite the strong debut from NBC's Medium, CBS still claimed the title of most-watched network, with an average of 16.1 million viewers tuning in throughout the night. Everybody Loves Raymond and Two and a Half Men continued to do well for the network, with the comedies watched by 18.9 and 18.2 million viewers, respectively. Fox's controversial reality special, Who's Your Daddy, was dead on arrival with an average of 6.3 million viewers during its 90-minute airing.
