CSI:NY is finally hitting it big and this week TV Guide shows the show a little love by giving it the cover. “In terms of the franchise, CSI:NY was definitely the new Coke for a while, but now everybody’s on to it,” says series creator Anthony E. Zuiker.
16.8 million viewers tune into CSI:NY each week, making it the number 5 scripted series on TV. The show ranked number 14 in scripted series during the first two seasons.
After two seasons of by-the-books forensics, the show has shifted to some more personal story lines. One of which is the relationship between Detective Mac Taylor (played by Gary Sinise) and medical examiner Dr. Peyton Driscoll (played by Claire Forlani). Additionally, CSI Danny Messer (Carmine Giovinazzo) has developed an unrequited crush on colleague Lindsey Monroe (Anna Belknap).
CSI:NY’s move beyond the procedural has helped. “We all knew the franchise was successful because of the mystery element and the sexy science, but it wasn’t until we started bringing down the walls around our characters that the heat really kicked in,” says Zuiker.
