LaRue Has A Lot On Her Plate

By Rachel
November 4, 2007 - 10:39 PM

Eva LaRue (Natalia Boa Vista) stays busy.

LaRue played Dr Maria Santos for eight years on ABC's All My Children. She eventually decided to leave the soap opera to pursue a different career path. Taking a leap of faith, LaRue went back to California and started looking for new roles. She described that point in an actor's career as "tough," adding that they go to "all the auditions and the call backs and then nothing happens. You land a pilot and then it tanks, or never airs." Luckily for LaRue, the ups and downs of that situation ended happily when she landed the role of Natalia Boa Vista on CSI: Miami.

LaRue is also socially conscious and works hard to instill those same values in her daughter, Kaya. She does so by exposing Kaya to the work she does serving dinners at shelters and by teaching her not to look down on people. "I try and lead by example," LaRue told Who's Next What's Next magazine. "If you're not doing it, how can you ask your kids to?"

Earlier this year, LaRue travelled to Africa to film the documentary Uganda: Peril to Pearl. She interviewed President Museveni, Prime Minister Blair, Koffi Annan, Presidents Carter and Clinton and other dignitaries. The humanitarian documentary explored the financial struggles of Uganda and showed efforts to create a transparent accounting system to help with investments, international financial aid and business opportunities for the country. LaRue studied the politics and socioeconomics of the region before filming on the documentary began.

With everything that she has on her plate, LaRue wishes to be open about the fact that it is okay not to have everything together. She is honest about her life as a single, working mother because she wishes to support other women. "I can't do it all," she said. "I am going crazy, and some days I just want to go sit in a corner and cry." For LaRue, it is important to acknowledge that one person cannot do everything alone. It doesn't make you weak, she said, but it frees you from the burden of having to pretend that you are superhuman.

The original WNWN article can be read on LaRue's website. The Valley Business Journal provided a more detailed description of Uganda: Peril to Pearl.
