Zuiker: 'Huge Evolution' Coming For Gil Grissom

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation mastermind Anthony Zuiker yesterday said the show's fourth season will bring change for many of the characters, especially lead CSI Gil Grissom.

"We'll have a huge evolution of Gil Grissom in terms of his hearing disability, which may or may not work out the right way," Zuiker told Kirk Baird at the Las Vegas Sun. Grissom underwent surgery to correct his hearing in season three's finale, "Inside The Box", and Zuiker has said the issue will be wrapped up this year (story).

Grissom's situation will have a knock-on effect for his colleagues in the Las Vegas crime lab. "We'll also have Catherine Willows...how will she react in terms of Grissom's hearing disability? Will she have to take over the unit, will she not have to take over the unit?" Zuiker teased.

CSI's supporting characters are also set to have some meaty plotlines in season four. "We're also exploring Nick Stokes inability to stay objective and impersonal with the survivors of victims, getting a little more emotionally involved when he sees the survivors ailing over somebody who's dead."

One of these stories will heark back to the Warrick-Nick competition in CSI's pilot episode, only this time Sara Sidle, who hadn't yet joined the Las Vegas team back then, gets in on the act. "There's a big competition going on between Warrick Brown and Sara Sidle in terms of a promotion coming up," Zuiker said.
