Schreiber Stars In 'Wolverine'

Actor Liev Schreiber joins the X-Men universe.

Schreiber starred as Mike Keppler in four episodes of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation during William Petersen's mid-season hiatus in the show's seventh season. He has now been cast for an upcoming sequel to the X-Men movie series. The movie, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, will begin filming later this year.

Schreiber has been cast as a younger William Stryker. The character appeared in the movie X2, played by Brian Cox. Schreiber will be playing opposite Hugh Jackman, who is reprising his role as the mysterious mutant Wolverine.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine will, as the title suggests, explore the past of Jackman's character. Reportedly set seventeen years before X-Men, the movie will also delve into Wolverine's complex relationship with Victor Creed, also known as Sabretooth, who was portrayed by Tyler Mane in the first X-Men movie. Stryker's association with the Weapon X program in X2 is a possible hint about the role Schreiber's character will have in Wolverine, which will show Wolverine's connection to the program.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine will film in Australia, New Zealand and New Orleans. The movie will feature a multitude of mutants, some from the previous movies and others that are new to the big screen. The movie is slated to open in theaters on May 1, 2009.
