Corey Miller Immune To 'CSI' Gore

By Carolina
February 3, 2006 - 1:17 PM

CSI: Miami writer Corey Miller in his web blog revealed the blood, gore, and grimly used on the show really doesn't affect him.

"I wish I could say that submerging myself into the depths of depravity on a daily basis to come up with material for the show was an unfortunate job hazard, but just the opposite is true," he said in the January 19 update. "I am fascinated by the evils that humans do, to themselves and each other, and I get paid to write about them."

"I can also stomach an inordinate amount of grisly photographs without expelling my previous meals. And I do not consider this some sort of talent. I consider this a handicap that thankfully hasn't caused me to be ostracized from society."

Miller can share a room with a decomposing body without an ounce of hesitation, but he admits it's the little things that sometimes get to him. "Despite all of the gory photographs and stories that I have been privy to, some things do make my skin crawl. In fact, the writers have reveled in hearing stories about actual CSIs who, although being exposed to actual gore on a daily basis, have a particular aversion to something seemingly innocuous. Names will be withheld to protect the queasy, but there is one CSI who gags at the sight of human hair. Another that can't stand feet. Yet another that dry heaves at the sight of saliva."

"My own personal weakness was revealed to me when I wrote an episode in our second season entitled "Rap Sheet." In it, a woman in an open-topped Jeep gets into a car accident, and as she flies out of the car, her toe catches on metal, and her toenail gets ripped out. I still get chills just thinking about it. Head wounds, check. Eviscerations, check. Nails in eyes, cool. But that toenail? Man, that's my Kryptonite."
