'CSI', 'Grey's Anatomy' Rivalry Boosts DVR Sales

The CSI vs Grey's Anatomy match has already declared one winner: DVR companies.
The network ABC recently announced next season its popular show Grey's Anatomy will be moved to Thursday nights at 9 pm opposite CSI, which means millions of Americans will be watching one show, while getting their TiVo to record the other.
It also means more Americans will be hitting the stores to get their hands on these DVR programs. "These are powerhouse shows," said Mike Kelley, a partner for the advisory practice in the Entertainment, Media, Communications and Technology Sector at Pricewaterhouse Coopers. "This is going to propel DVR sales. Customers will say, I can have my cake and eat it too."
DVR devices such as TiVo allow viewers to record their favorite television shows and store them on a hard drive. Users then can pause, fast forward, or rewind their favorite scenes and skip commercials.
Moving Grey's Anatomy to Thursday nights is a bold move by ABC, but one that CSI producers are weary about, considering the respective increase and decrease in ratings experienced this year by Grey's Anatomy and CSI. DVR devices allow viewers to see both shows, but DVR recording does not count for a show's final ratings.
