Hill Harper & Eddie Cahill
By ChristianPosted at June 8, 2006 - 1:44 PM GMT
On Tuesday the 16th of May, just ahead of the CSI: New York second-season finale, Hill Harper (Dr. Sheldon Hawkes) and Eddie Cahill (Det. Flack) took part in a live chat with CSI Files visitors. Below you can find a transcript of the entire chat.
Kristine: Alright guys! We're all ready to go! I am going to turn on moderation and then you can send me questions!
Kristine: Welcome to tonight's CSI Files chat with Eddie Cahill and Hill Harper!
Kristine: Eddie and Hill, thanks for joining us tonight!
Eddie Cahill: Thank you.
Kristine: I'll go ahead and start out with a question from our message boards, but for people that want to send me questions, please just type /msg Kristine and your question!
Kristine: This first question is for both of you: tuliprose8 asks Have you seen the finale? What is your take on it?
Hill Harper: I haven't seen it yet, but the script was great and Eddie's performance is explosive!
Eddie Cahill: Haven't seen it yet... It's gonna be big.
Eddie Cahill: What's up Hill?
Hill Harper: Hey Brother!
Kristine: We've heard! Can you give us any teasers about it?
Eddie Cahill: Are we aloud to give teasers?
Eddie Cahill: Alowed?
Hill Harper: Somebody could die.
Kristine: A hint or two wouldn't hurt. ;)
Eddie Cahill: Let's just say that one of us winds up in a very unlucky situation.
Hill Harper: Hospitals, death... One of our own...
Kristine: Ah, cool--thank you. :) Georgia says you both really inspire her and would like to know if you have any advice for an aspiring actor or actress.
Eddie Cahill: I'm a big fan of acting school. I found it to be a great place to practice and build confidence.
Hill Harper: Train and study, take acting classes and do as much acting as you can, whenever, however -- theater, student films, anything.
Kristine: kati asks Was it different shooting S2 compared to shooting S1?
Hill Harper: Yes, for me obviously, I was out of the morgue, but more than that, I got to interact with all of the other characters in varied settings and that makes shooting much more fun.
Eddie Cahill: S2 got off to a smoother start. We had S1 to warm up, and I think we hit the ground running in the second season.
Kristine: Carolina asks -- We saw Mac go on a date last season, Stella had a boyfriend this year, and it looks like Danny and Lindsay will be doing some kind of naked. Are Flack and Hawkes ever going to get a little loving?
Eddie Cahill: I would love Flack to get some lovin'...
Hill Harper: Together??? NO -- just kidding -- But I hope we both get to explore more personal stories... A date would be nice!!!
Eddie Cahill: But I haven't heard either way yet.
Kristine: LOL Hill! :D
Kristine: This next one is for Hill... MrsGiovinazzo asks I recently finished reading your book, 'Letters to a Young Brother.' She wants to commend you on how you spoke so candidly in the book and asks if it was difficult to write about?
Hill Harper: I felt I had to be really candid with my own stories cause I was asking the young men to ask themselves questions -- the publisher did say to me "are you sure you want to reveal this..." and I thought it was important to.
Hill Harper: And I love the fact that Carmine's wife is taking the time to chat with us.
Kristine: She's a very special lady, Hill! :D
Hill Harper: I'm sure she is -- Is she in the BLACK BOOK?
Kristine: She just might be, I think. I imagine she had to be a pretty important entry, huh?
Hill Harper: YES.
Kristine: Eddie, next one for you... jorja_fan86 asks Does most of Flack's comic timing come from you or the writers?
Eddie Cahill: I think myself and the writers share that responsibility.
Kristine: Next question for both of you: Bunny asks Any hints on what might happen next season?
Eddie Cahill: I hate to say this, but your guess is as good as mine.
Hill Harper: I have no idea -- and I'm being honest.
Eddie Cahill: I wish I had more for you.
Kristine: Is there anything you guys would like to see for your characters in the next season?
Eddie Cahill: I'd like to see more Flack/Hawkes.
Hill Harper: Yes... We work well together.
Kristine: That would be very cool. :) walkintherain has a question for Eddie: Will we get to see Flack's father in later seasons? Do you know what his relationship is with Flack?
Hill Harper: or Hawkes/Flack.
Kristine: I hope you guys know the connotations of the little "/"
Kristine: ;)
Hill Harper: No what is that?
Kristine: It's a little on the romantic side. ;)
Hill Harper: He is a good looking man!
Eddie Cahill: You know, the father thing comes up every once in a blue... that's a story that I really want to see come to life. I think it will happen eventually, but I don't know when.
Kristine: This one's for Hill: tuesdaymorning asks If there was one thing you could change about Hawkes, what would it be?
Eddie Cahill: You guys can't talk like that when I'm busy typing.
Kristine: Sorry Eddie! ;)
Hill Harper: Type faster!!!!!
Eddie Cahill: It's thinking that I'm slow with.
Hill Harper: I would make him have a little more conflict with some other characters -- I think conflict is good.
Eddie Cahill: And I think we're off to a start here.
* ThumpyG42 has quit IRC (Ping timeout)
Hill Harper: It hurts everytime somebody "quits"
Kristine: Sometimes they come back. ;)
Kristine: Khanada and lookaboomerang would like to know what plans each of you has for hiatus?
Eddie Cahill: I'm off to Ireland at the end of the month.
Hill Harper: I'm on book tour across the country
Kristine: This next one's for both of you... Jaer would like to know what your favorite role is.
Eddie Cahill: Tie between Flack and Jim Graig from Miracle.
Hill Harper: Besides some plays I've done -- My favorite role on film is Alex Waters in the film The Visit.
Kristine: This next one is for Eddie -- power of 3 would like to now how you feel about Flack's friendship with Danny and if you enjoy playing that?
Eddie Cahill: I'd love to play [Carmine Giovinazzo (Danny Messer)] in a movie one day.
Eddie Cahill: I love the relationship b/w Flack and Danny. I'm thankful that they've been written as friends, and I think we've had some great moments together.
Kristine: LOL! :D This next one's for Hill: jorja_fan86 asks If you were to offer one piece of educational advice to all the young people of today what would it be?
Hill Harper: To control school don't let school control you -- meaning remember (respectfullly) that the teacher works for you, not the other way and I believe that since they work for you it is the students' responsibility as the "employer" to make sure they teach you in a way that you learn and are maximized educationally.
Kristine: This next one is for both of you... Jaer would like to know if TV is more challenging than film/movies?
Hill Harper: The TV schedule is more challenging...
Eddie Cahill: Neither one is easy. However, the challenge with television is learning to work at a frenetic pace.
Kristine: lookaboomerang would like to know if you're happy with how the season turned out. Why or why not?
Eddie Cahill: Yes. I like how the energy of the show has changed to match the energy of N.Y.
Hill Harper: Yes -- I think it was a good season -- the true stability was there -- whenever you lose a main character -- I think the most important thing is to establish stability and we did that and also told some interesting stories and I think all of the actors do a great job... especially Eddie and I am not just saying that cause I'm his friend
Eddie Cahill: Thank you.
Eddie Cahill: The check's in the mail.
Hill Harper: !) Percent baby!
Kristine: LOL! Speaking of Aiden... Bad Habit would like to know what you guys thought of the way Aiden was
written out of the show in the last episode, "Heroes."
Eddie Cahill: It was sad to lose Aiden that way.
Hill Harper: I think Aiden was written out well -- I liked Heroes, it was emotional and I think well-written and acted.
Eddie Cahill: How's the tour going Hill?
Hill Harper: Tour is great -- Hit #6 on New York Times extended list.
Kristine: Wow, congrats Hill! :D
Eddie Cahill: Come on!
Kristine: Do either of you keep in touch with Vanessa Ferlito (Aiden Burn)?
Eddie Cahill: I talk to Vanessa every now and again. She's doing very well.
Hill Harper: Yes I hope to see her on Thursday -- I love me some Vanessa -- she is one of the funniest girls in the world!!!!
Eddie Cahill: Tell her I said hey.
Hill Harper: Will do
Kristine: Carolina would like to know how you guys feel about the animosity between CSI and its spin-offs?
Eddie Cahill: I think it's comical.
Hill Harper: I can't speak to that, cause I have never been on a #1 show that had a spin-off... Was Archie Bunker mad at The Jeffersons for "movin' on up?"
Eddie Cahill: lol
Kristine: :D MiamiGirl says she loves Flack and Sheldon and asks if either of you have any scenes with Anna Belknap (Lindsay Monroe) in the finale?
Eddie Cahill: Kind Of.
Eddie Cahill: You'll know what I mean tomorrow.
Hill Harper: Yes... All of us work the same case tomorrow.
Kristine: CSi_fan991 would like to know what each of your favorite episodes is.
Eddie Cahill: S1: "The Fall" S2: "All Access"
Eddie Cahill: Take it back. S2: "Charge of this Post."
Hill Harper: I know this is a long time ago... But I loved the Circus Ep ["Blood, Sweat and Tears"] from last season cause I will never forget the "Rubber Boy" contortionist that was stuffed in a box... And I got to unspool him... It may not have been the "best" ep but the most fun/interesting/odd for me.
Kristine: Bad_Habit and powerof3 would like to know how you feel about Anna's addition to the cast? Does she fit in well?
Eddie Cahill: I love her. She fits like a glove. And one of the nicest people you'll ever meet.
Hill Harper: Anna fits in great... She is a great actress and more than that she is one of the most kind and decent people you will ever meet, I love her to death.
Kristine: Lyn would like to know what the weirdest fan experience or gift you've each had is.
Eddie Cahill: I got a letter the other day from someone I've never met apologizing for not keeping in touch with me.
Eddie Cahill: ...and that's the quick version.
Kristine: LOL! Was it a long letter?
Eddie Cahill: It was decently long... but exceptionally strange.
Hill Harper: I got a thong once... It was "laPerla" so I knew she was classy...
Kristine: LOL!
Eddie Cahill: what do i gotta do to get a thong?
Kristine: BlueGirl would like to know if you guys have ever heard dubs of your voices in other languages for the show, and if so , what did you think?
Hill Harper: I'll send it over... I kept it!!
Kristine: Eddie, I think you just did it. ;)
Eddie Cahill: Kidding...
Eddie Cahill: Kind of
Kristine: People are already offering. ;)
Hill Harper: I was kidding too
Eddie Cahill: No, I haven't heard the dubs yet.
Hill Harper: I haven't heard them from this show --- I did hear them from The Handler and they sounded a lot older than me.
Kristine: kati asks Actors often have to wait till the team is ready to take the next shoot. What are you doing during this time?
Hill Harper: I take the time to either study my lines more or respond to something on my Blackberry.
Eddie Cahill: Hanging on set, playing guitar, reading over the next scene, video game hockey, you name it.
Kristine: tuesdaymorning asks Have any of you ever witnessed a prank on set, played a prank or actually been a victim of one?
Eddie Cahill: We don't prank so much... but the jokes/laughs are endless.
Hill Harper: Yes I loved the one with Melina that I talked about in the last chat... I have not yet been a victim -- I think I am too smart for the rest of the cast to ever trick me.
Eddie Cahill: what did she do?
Hill Harper: When Gary had the fake FHM or Maxim made with her face on the cover.
Eddie Cahill: Right.. I never saw that.
Kristine: Khanada wants to know who the best guitar player on the set is, since we've heard there are a few!
Eddie Cahill: Carmine... I'm just learning.
Hill Harper: I think Carmine... But give Anna and Eddie time.
Kristine: Do you play, too, Hill?
Hill Harper: With myself -- yes.
Eddie Cahill: oh sh!#
Eddie Cahill: lol
Kristine: LOL!!! Hill! :D
Hill Harper: I meant guitar!!!!
Hill Harper: :-}
Kristine: This one is for Eddie: ilovegrissom1 asks I recently was watching a Friends episode, and saw your hair, I loved it! Are you ever thinking of growing it out again?
Eddie Cahill: Not anytime soon. But maybe some day.
Kristine: Hill, sissi591000 would like to know if your book is going to be available in other languages?
Hill Harper: I hope so... It really depends how well it does... I'm really having to rely on word of mouth... So please spread the word -- it's only 13 bucks on Amazon
Kristine: How are you guys doing? How much longer would you like to keep going?
Eddie Cahill: 10/15
Kristine: Is that okay with you, Hill?
Hill Harper: thats cool -- I gotta go play "guitar."
Kristine: Excellent! :D Your "guitar" playing is going to be legendary. ;) On that note, what music are you guys into right now?
Eddie Cahill: Currently listening to Mississippi John Hurt.
Eddie Cahill: Delta Blues
Hill Harper: Corrine Bailey Rae's album is hot, Prince's new album, Chamillionaire is hot.
Eddie Cahill: She said music, Hill.
Hill Harper: LOL
Kristine: LOL! This one's for Eddie... nicksbabygirl would like to know if your NY accent is real.
Eddie Cahill: It's real... at times it gets a little amped up. But it's real.
Kristine: For Hill: Bunny would like to know if we'll be getting some background info on Hawkes in season three?
Hill Harper: I really hope so... I think the writers had a ton of challenges this year... and they did a great job, I think next year they will be able to focus more specifically on some of the characters that are further down the food chain like our beloved Dr. Hawkes.
Kristine: CSi_fan991 would like to know if there's a type of character or particular character each of you would like to play at some point?
Hill Harper: Bob Marley
Eddie Cahill: Carmine Givovosidanazzzo
Kristine: On that note, Eddie...the most popular question we got for tonight's chat is from Mrs. Giovinazzo...are you aware of the fanfiction stories about Danny and Flack, and have you read any? If so, what did you think?
Eddie Cahill: I haven't read any. Whattya got?
Kristine: I'm sure someone can show you... they're "/" stories. ;)
Eddie Cahill: Oh, I see. Probably not gonna happen.
Kristine: Hill, do you plan to write another book?
Hill Harper: Definitely -- the next one will probably be one that I edit and compile more than write (maybe write the forward) it will be called "Letters To A Young Sister" And it will be a motivational book for young women
Kristine: What are you both reading right now?
Eddie Cahill: Brendan Behan's New York.
Hill Harper: My bills that have been stacking up since I've been on my book tour -- and Tavis Smiley's "The Covenant With Black America." It is excellent.
Kristine: Ok, guys, final question of the evening...
